Gold price faces a crossroad this week, and there’s no guarantee the break will be to the upside

Gold investors could face a crossroads this week as the gap between the price of gold and its ceiling narrows, according to David Scutt, a market analyst at City Index. In a technical analysis published on Monday, Scutt wrote that while there are some bullish signs on balance, a bullish breakout is not guaranteed. After an incredibly strong start to the year, gold has been down compared to recent months. As seen in the daily chart below, prices continue to attract buyers on the downside towards the uptrend support that has been running from the lows of February 28. We have now seen six bounces from this level, including one on Thursday. However, a bearish or bearish presence could fill the picture, pushing the price above $3360 on several occasions, including several times last week. Scutt said the net result of these two opposing forces is a gradually narrowing trading range. Scutt said if spot prices can close above the $3,360 resistance level, the July 16 high of $3,377 appears to be the first test with upside. Gold prices had already managed to break $3,400 an ounce on Monday afternoon, but selling pressure was also strong, successfully pushing the yellow metal below this strong price ceiling level.
