Wall Street bets on gains for gold next week, Main Street maintains a more cautious stance as rate decisions loom

The latest Kitco News weekly gold survey showed industry experts are broadly bullish on gold’s prospects, while it’s the turn of retail traders to pull back a bit, despite a solid rally in gold. Rich Checkan, president and COO of Asset Strategies International, said gold prices will rise further this week with Israel’s attack on Iran heightening tensions globally. There’s no doubt where gold will go this week and next. Darin Newsom, senior market analyst at Barchart.com, said gold will rise due to the escalating civil war in the United States. Missiles are flying in the Middle East. The world is selling the U.S. dollar. The FOMC is expected to keep interest rates on hold this week. Fourteen analysts participated in the Kitco News Gold survey this week, with Wall Street reaffirming its bullish bias after this week’s cool inflation data and developments in the escalating Middle East. Ten experts, or 71%, expect gold prices to rise in the coming week, while one analyst, or 7%, predicted a decline in the yellow metal. The remaining three analysts, representing 21% of the total, see gold trading higher next week. Meanwhile, 253 votes were cast in an online Kitco poll, with Main Street showing a significantly bearish stance on gold compared to experts’ opinions. 146 retail traders, or 58%, looked for gold prices to rise next week, while 54, or 21%, expected the yellow metal to fall lower. The remaining 53 investors, or 21%, saw prices mixed in the coming week.
